Dyamond Abrantes 1 2 / 4 /18 EDUC 200 Dr. Bridges According to dictionary.net, education is " the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university " to me education can be defined by one word; learning . The purpose of education is to learn, not to only learn : math, reading, science etc. but other components that matter to life. While in school students not only learn the basic curriculum but also c ritical thinking, creativity, interpersonal skills and a sense of social responsibility . A teachers role is undefined because as a teacher you are so much more than just a "teacher". You are a nurse, parent, mentor, educator, leader, security etc. In education you are the one who teaches the child material for them to move on to the next level in life. To the parents you are the person preparing their child for greatness, the one keeping them safe for 8 hours out of the day. My opinion on the role of a student is that students are there to learn and get life experience in the 8 hours that they're at school. Their only job is to take everything in, from curriculum to life experiences. Of course they need to be trying to get good grades and behaving accordingly, but the main purpose is for them to learn. My belief about teaching is easy, if they aren't interested its just going to go through one ear and out the other. As a former student I have first hand experience with this, so my belief for learning is that it has to be interesting, the child needs to be engaged and eager to learn if the material is ever going to stick. My beliefs on education an everything that plays a part in it will make me the teacher that I'm destined to be. My beliefs will tell me my goals and values for education and that will play apart in my teaching. Being a teacher holds many responsibilities and duties in life a teacher must have at least a philosophy in hi s/ her life to make them a better and effective teacher . H aving philosophy on life will lead you on what kind of style you want in your teaching as long as you make your students learn from you .
